What if he never stood
On the balcony or what if
He never rode in the car
If he never watched that movie
If she didn’t march us this far?
Revolution through fate
That’s what I see, if that’s the case
What’ll happen to me, will I
Ascend to be a king like the great Selassie
Or will I turn coward like Malcolm X’s rising
What if I never wrote or sang a song
If I never graduated and continued on
No education or religion to guide
What if I was nothing, empty inside.
